The daughter of Stanley Willard Henson, Jr who was a doctor and Thelma Burnell Henson Michele Carey whose birth name is Michele Lee Henson was born on February 26, 1942, at Annapolis, Maryland in the United States of America. While still a teenager she excelled at playing the piano. When she was only 13 years old she won an international contest in the Chicago Music Festival. Her family settled in Fort Collins in Colorado, and she finished her high school studies through Fort Collins High School in 1960.
